Dig Insights is a market research company that provides clear answers to complex business questions, particularly in areas of consumer behaviour and buying choices. In order to engage potential customers and collect effective early-stage market research, Dig Insights tasked us with creating the Upsiide app.

Challenge

For Fortune 500 brands who want to know more about their consumers, as well as determine the viability of future products. Ordinarily, such market research is conducted using interviews, focus groups and surveys (both print and digital). But these research methods are limited to small groups of live participants.

Dig Insights needed a market research method that took full advantage of modern digital and mobile technology to encourage mobile consumers from different locations to participate in research studies while giving brands the critical data they need to make informed decisions about their product or market.


Solution

Dig Insights approached us with the task of designing and developing Upside, a mobile application that allows consumers to participate in market research using a simple, swipe-based interface. With each vote, consumers would be able to obtain Upside Points, which could be redeemed for rewards such as gift cards and discounts from participating brands.

Brands can also benefit from real-time reporting results through Upsiide’s dynamic dashboard. This data can then be compared with similar products from competitors, or even previous ideas. Over time, marketers will be able to create a database of ideas, rank and sort them by performance and filter them via keywords.

User-Centric Design

We collaborated with Dig as a team using design thinking to define use cases, features and user experience prior to writing a line of code. This critical, but often overlooked step resulted in a clear vision of what needed to be built. Using this methodology helped to identify challenges upfront so they could be addressed early and reduce wasted resources.

Reduced time to market

Lower development and maintenance costs

By using Xamarin, we were able to tightly control development manpower expenditures and pass those savings along to Dig Insights. Maintenance costs were similarly reduced, as the team only had to maintain one version of the software.

Responsive post-project support

In order to ensure performance and quality, Dig Insights awarded us with the contract for post-project tech support.
